“Skin” by Rebecca Olsen

SRISA Gallery presents Rebecca Olsen’s (1975, Florence) first solo exhibition. Born into a family of artists, and raised in contact with the world of artistic creation, Olsen has always cultivated a careful observation of reality by utilizing the expressive languages ​​of drawing, painting, photography as well as various printmaking techniques.

“Skin” brings together a selection of works, monotypes and photos – all completed over the past few years – that reflect a marked sensibility for color and shape. The geometry that makes up the city is depicted from two different points of view: the first by exploiting and experimenting with the possibilities of the medium and the second by revealing links between the skyline and the layer that surrounds the historic city center.

In the series of monotypes an imaginary city takes shape, in which the silhouettes of skyscrapers, domes and industrial buildings overlap against a chemical sky, which evoke the colors of Turner’s sunsets with the grain of a natural surface.

The photographs interpret the organic nature of the skin of the historic center: portions of walls covered with successive layers of billboards and paint. When closely observed they show a vitality that tells the story of the clash between order and spontaneous expression, which is ultimately the heterogeneity of society.
